10/05/20 The long wait begins. Matthew will return to the check on the kiln every two hours throughout the night. Sustainable charcoal is made at Longway Bank Wood. The sustainable BBQ fuel is made in a managed woodland between Crich and Wirksworth in Derbyshire. Full story: Each kiln of logs takes 24 hours to turn into charcoal and makes 60 bags. Demand for charcoal is at its highest since the business began three years ago. Part-owner and wood-collier, Matthew Robinson believes the combination of great weather and people sitting in their gardens on lockdown have contributed to a boom in sales.
