The genus was founded to include thin shells with no teeth, and the aspect of Trigonia. They are related to the Modiolce. Orthonotus decipiens, McCoy. Orthonotus anguliferus, McCoy. A new square species related to 0. solenoides, Sow. but with epidermal marks like Mya \.-scrip>ta. Orthonotus amygdalinus, Sow. (Siluria, 2nd ed. pi. 23, fig. 6). A rather rougher va- riety of this usually smooth shell. Orthonotus amygdalinus, var. retusus, Sow. (Siluria, 2nd ed. pi. 23, fig. 7). Orthonotus amygdalinus, Sow. var. globulosus, McCoy. A variety of 0. amygdalinus evi- dently. Orthonotus truncatus, McCoy. A well-marked shell. Orthonotus undatus, Sow. (Siluria, 2nd ed pi. 23, fig. 4), ridges regular. Orthonotus prora, Salter (Siluria, 3rd ed. Foss. 61, fig. 4). Easily known by the narrow front. Orthonotus affinis, McCoy. Certainly an Or- thonotus of the usual shape and ornament. Cuculella, McCoy. An useful genus, to include those Nucula-like shells, with a strong in- ternal septum on the short posterior side. Cuculella ovata, Sow. (Siluria, 2nd ed. pi. 34, fig. 17).
