The Lord Mayor of Worms, Michael Kissel, hands over the chain of his office to the BojemŠŠschter vun de FischerwŠŠd (mayor of the fishermenÕs lea), Markus Trapp, who keeps it until the end of the festival. The largest wine and funfair along the Rhine, the Backfischfest started in Worms with the traditional handing over of power from the Lord Mayor to the mayor of the fishermenÕs lea.
