Artificial Incubation, or Hatching Chickens Without Hens. ^Homer City Incubators and ^- For hundreds of 5-ears the old speckled hen has held all the premiums and medals awarded as the most perfect and reliable hatcher. There have been competitors at one time or another, but they have been lost to view and others arisen. The hen has, however, kept on in the same old way. She sits and hatches now as she did before Noah took her into the ark. She still gathers the chicks under her wings, as though there were no brooder in the land. She is as reliable, true and faithful as ever. But there are serious complaints made against her. She does not consider that young chickens are wanted in February and March instead of May and June. She does not care for the demand of Saratoga, Long Branch or New York markets; but when she gets ready to sit she will sit, commonly in May or June. Another charge against her is tnat she can cover oiuy thirteen or fifteen eggs, whereas, a hatcher is wanted that will spread its warm body over any number at once. In point of time and numbers there is quite a difference. So they say "the old hen must ; She can not keep up with the demands of the times. The great difference between prices of June and OcLOber make it very desirable to produce chickens for the June market. This requires that they should be hatched in February and March. Aw Jt is out of season for the hens to be hatching this time of year, only a few can be obtained; so that the demand is not filled and the prices are kept up. The-e is money in the poultry business if you go into it right. It takes but a few dol- lars to start. If 3"ou don't want a 200 or 300 egg machine we can furnish you a 50 or 100 egg SEL
