Swindon Mechanics Institute, roof stripped by council follow neglect of listed building


Swindon Mechanics Institute, historic structure built in the 1850s for the workforce of the Great Western Railway. Building became redundant in 1980s and unoccupied. Bought for a nominal fee by a property developer about 10 years ago the building has been neglected. Entered by the council in 2010 it was found that the roof was in danger of collapse and has now been renoved by the council. This is a listed building
