The Hcllyhock in its present state of perfection is very unlike its parent of olden time; it novv ranks with the Dahlia, Aster, Camellia, etc. For background to a flower garden, perhaps no plant is so useful. The flowers are as double as a rose, of many shades of color, from deep yellow, red, purple, to pure white. Plant the seed in June or July, in open ground, and in the autumn, when the plants have made five leaves, transplant to permanent position, three feet apart. The following summer they will bloom.
