The most famous Greek building -which was erected inthe Ionic style -was tlie Temple of Diana at temple has been all but totally destroyed, and thevery site of it had been for centuries lost and unknowntill the energy and sagacity of an English architect (i\[) enabled him to discover and dig out the vestigesof the building. Fortunately sufficient traces of thefoundation have remained to render it possible to recoverthe plan of the temple completely; and the discovery offragments of the order, together with representations onancient coins and a description by Pliny, have renderedit possible to make a restoration
