A good lion measures from 9 to 9J- feet in tigers, a disabled lion is apt to take to man-eating. From its colour the lion issometimes locally called the Unlia bagh or camel tiger, but the name by which it isgenerally known in the Gir is Savag, a word said to be of Arabic origin, meaninghe who causes the flocks to bleat. The lioness is called Shian. It is a curiousfact that although panthers are common enough in the Gir, neither tigers nor bearsare found there. L. L. Fig. 62.âIndian in captivity at Junagarh.
