Alligator pears, boughtas a luxury in New York for 75 cents or a dol-lar apiece, sell in Port-au-Prince for 5 pearsfor 2 cents. In Port-au-Prince there are two markets,the open and the closed, of which thelatter is a roofed and walled structure and theformer held without cover on an open plaza,directly beneath the wall around the Cathe-dral.
