Women botanists at the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). In the foreground is Lucia McCulloch (1873-1955), an assistant plant pathologist. Her research included crown gall and gladiolus diseases and pests. Behind her is Clara H. Hasse (1880-1926), an assistant horticulturist and botanist who identified a bacterium as the causative agent of citrus canker. At right is Mary K. Berger, while an unidentified woman is at left (possibly Alice Haskins). All the women worked in the USDA's Bureau of Plant Industry.
