The bow of a cruise boat, MV Sinbad, touching the full force of water from the 155m high Stirling Falls for the benefit of its passengers on Milford Sound in Fiordland National Park on South Island, New Zealand. The155m Stirling Falls were named after the captain of the HMS Cleo. Fiordland National Park is known for the glacier-carved fiords and powerful waterfalls. Milford Sound's weather can be very unpredictable and is recorded as the wettest inhabited place in New Zealand and one of the wettest places on earth with an average rainfall of 182 days annually. Milford Sound was discovered in 1823 when sealer John Grono named it Milford Sound after Milford Haven in his birthplace of Wales in the UK. The Cleddau River, which flows into the fiord, was also named after the same named river in Milford Haven in Wales.
