Hewas one of the charter members of the LeeCounty National Bank (now the City NationalBank of Dixon), which was organized in 1865,and served as its President until his death;elected Mayor of Dixon in 1873 and re-electedthe two following terms. He died August 11,1891. GEORGE L. HOWELL (deceased) v/as bornnear Syracuse, N. August 2-4, 1820, son ofNichol and Betsy (Wilson) Howell, natives. GEORGE L. HOWELL. of New York. George L. Howell came toDixon. III., in 1854. and the same year formeda partnership with P. M. Alexander in the 7i6 HISTORY OF LEE COUXTY. hardware business, which was continued fornearly forty years, or until the time of hisdeath, March 23, 1893. On July 17. 1845, hemarried Julia Thomas who. bore him threechildren—Clarence N. (deceased), Frank Emma (deceased). Mrs. Howell died, andon Dec. 22. Mr. married his sec-ond wife. Emma P. Little, who was born inCastine. Maine, and of this union there werefour children—Edward N., Agnes P. (Mrs. Wil-liam E. Appleford), Louise A. (deceased) andGeorge L.
