The Barcoo River, near Blackall, March 1938. The Central Queensland Herald 3 March 1938 ISISFORD 70576264 ) Owing to swollen rivers and creeks and the consequent inability of several councillors to visit town, the February meeting of the shire council was postponed. Whilst cycling over the Anzac Bridge Harold Hooper, 12, youngest son of Mr T. Hooper, somersaulted with his bicycle into the Barcoo River. Due to his swimming ability he was able to reach the bank in safety, and, after recovering from the shock, he retrieved his bicycle from the river bed.
