P. C. Schupp says this autumn finds the J. A. Budlong Co. at the end of its best summer to date. He believes he has helped the trade in general by his efforts to keep business going full speed during the heated term. Wendland & Keimel Co., at Elmhurst, made no fuel contract this season, but have been buying whenever spot coal of the grade they wanted was offered at an attractive price. As a result they have in storage on the place about 1,800 tons, which has cost all the way from $ to $ per ton, as against the declined contract price of $ They use about 3,200 tons per season. Mr. Keimel believes there will be a fuel pinch in the next few weeks, but that the market will again be easy before he needs to reenter it. Miss Nettie L. Parker, secretary and treasurer of A. T. Pyfer & Co., Inc., re- turned last week from an enjoyable vacation of three weeks and Mr. Pyfer took advantage of the opportunity for a three days' auto trip with his family, over the week end. F. M. Johnson returned last week from a business trip by automobile which included the S. A. F. convention, New York city and numerous cities en route. He had one or more of the Ean- dall men with him all the way. The passing of Labor day brings W. J. Smyth, the trade's greatest treasurer, back from his summer home near Antioch.
