In a dry season the extra amount of fruit will doubly pay for the material used, not to speak of the saving of labor and cleanli- ness of the fruit. DOWNING. AMERICAN VARIETIES. Downing. Very large, handsome, pale green, and of splendid quality for both cooking and table use; bush a vigorous grower, and usually free from mildew. One of the best for both home use and market. Houghton's Seedling, Is small to medium; roundish oval; pale red, sweet, tender, very good; plants spreading; shoots tender; enor- mously productive. Smith's Improved. Large, pale greenish yel- low, skin thin, of excellent quality, being un- surpassed by any other variety for table use or cooking; bush moderately vigorous and is ex- cessively productive. Industry. This is the largest and one of the best English sorts. Fruit very large, red, and. â covered with soft stickers. A .good bearer. industry.
