Douglas is the capital, main commercial port and largest town of the Isle of Man, a self-governing British Crown dependency in the Irish Sea between Great Britain and Ireland. It grew rapidly as a result of links with the English port of Liverpool in the 18th century. It became a major tourist destination following the formation of the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company in 1830.
