On the 28th of March he was chosen minister of Church, New London, for the following year: on the17th of July he was ordained to the priesthood in New York byBishop Provoost; and for more than eighteen years he carried onthe work of the rectorship of that venerable and important was a quiet work in a quiet time. The record of such a ministry is not one which canbe written with pen and ink ; in its struggles and privations (for was by no means secure from these), and in its encourage-ments (for some such there must have been), it is consecrated tothe Masters service and accepted and blessed by him. And when, in1814, he removed to Setauket, , to begin the rectorship of Caro-line Church, it was to carry on there for thirty years the same patientand quiet and (we fear we must add) ill-requited priestly labors. Be-sides the care of iiis parish, he was for many years missionary atIslip and also had temporary charge of the church at , sensible, and faithful, he occupied himself with thework which God had set him to do ; and when he was called to hisrest on the 29th of Decemb
