Dodecatheon meadia, commonly known as shooting star, is a species of flowering plant in the primrose family (Primulaceae) native to the eastern United States and Canada. Painted with a Heath Hen aka Greater Prairie Chicken and Eastern Shooting Star (Urogallus minor) by Mark Catesby (1683-1749), an English naturalist who studied flora and fauna in the New World.
