Fabiana Escobar, nicknamed Bibi Perigosa, “Bibi the Dangerous”, is now a filmmaker in Rio de Janeiro's Rocinha favela. Her life inspired the Brazilian telenovela “A Força do Querer”, translated into English as Edge of Desire. In the favelas of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, a generation of young female directors has emerged since the late 2000s. Their ambition is to produce alternative narratives, far removed from the cliches of trafficking violence and the sexualization of women.
