Rubina Tashjian, the widow of the hotel's former owner, said they stopped taking bookings in 2012, when the fighting started, because they were worried about who might stay. Aleppo's historic Baron Hotel was founded in 1911 by two Armenian brothers. Guests included David Rockefeller, Theodore Roosevelt, Agatha Christie and Charles Lindbergh.
