Over a million Uyghur people, from the Uyghur homeland of China are still being detained in concentration camps since 2017. China denies any form of ethnic cleansing or political indoctrination. The Uyghur are also forced to produce fabrics and garments for the fashion industry. 84% of China’s cotton production comes from the Uyghur region. Large brands like Puma, Microsoft, Zara, Apple, GAP and H&M are complicit in profiting from their enforced labour. In recent weeks, H&M, Nike and other Western brands are facing a boycott in China due to the stand they have taken against the alleged use of forced labor to produce cotton in the country's western region of Xinjiang. Numerous Chinese celebrities have terminated contracts or said that they will cut ties with Puma, Converse, Calvin Klein, Adidas, Tommy Hilfiger and others. © Charles M Vella/Alamy Live News
