Trafalgar Square is perhaps London's most popular gathering spot for visitors and locals, especially on New Years Eve. Its best-known feature is Nelson's Column, commemorating Admiral Horatio Nelson's victory and death at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. It's flanked by four huge bronze lions, and nearby is a large pool with a magnificent fountain and two splendid bronze sculptures. The square is overlooked by the National Gallery.
