Cambridge Guided Busway, Cambridgeshire, England, 8-8-2011. Photographed on first full day of operation, Monday 8 August 2011 on the section between Cambridge and St Ives and Huntingdon Cambridgeshire. The Cambridge Guided Busway,the longest guided Busway in the world, opened to Fare paying passengers on Sunday morning, 7 August 2011. The Guided Busway has services provided by Stagecoach the national carrier and Whippet a local company in the Cambridge area. The Buses use conventional and bio fuel. The Guided Busway was due to open in April 2009 but engineering problems put the project back by over two years. The Busway which uses the track beds of disused railway lines across the Fens north of Cambridge to St Ives and Huntingdon was intended to cost £87m but the final costs have risen to over £151m. Cambridge County Council have started high court acfion against contractors BAM Nuttall for the cost of the £64m overspend.
