Albert Einstein (1879-1955), German-Swiss-American theoretical physicist and Nobel laureate. He was educated at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, and first worked as a patent clerk. In his leisure time he studied physics, and in 1905 published 3 papers that would lead to his 1921 Nobel Prize: calculations on Brownian motion, the photoelectric effect and special relativity. In 1915 he published his General Theory of Relativity, explaining gravity as a distortion of space-time by a mass. In 1933 he moved to America, working on the Manhattan Project in WW2. Thereafter he was a prominent campaigner for nuclear disarmament.
