Spiriferina brachiopod fossil. This fossil is remarkable for its preservation of the delicate brachidium (spiral structure) which supported this marine shelled animal's lophophore (feeding organ). This specimen is from France and dates from the Jurassic (around 200 to 145 million years ago).
