Construction of Furnace. The furnace, Plate 1, was constructed in two parts andarranged so that the heating element could be taken out without in-juring the outer casing. The walls of the jacket part were made ofthin brass tubes and the tops and bottoms wc re made of solid brassdisks molded especially for this work. The inner and outer tubesof the furnace were held in £>lace by a threaded brass bushing andreinforced by a coating of solder. In the center of each of thebrass caps there was a thin sheet of mica held in place by a thread- 5 Cross Section ot Furnace vsed in Hearingthe Jpecrmar? (Acrc/a/ Jize).
