colosseum xanten (amphitheater)
The amphitheater was not reconstructed on the original foundations, since they were excavated after their discovery in 1887 and exposed to the weather. Thus the carrying capacity was no longer guaranteed. Three of the original foundations of the piers are now displayed next to the arena. Between the arena and the city wall is also the replica of a Roman construction crane.
