Weather radar. This S-Pol (S-band Dual Polarisation) Doppler radar is a portable radar used by the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) and university scientists. It was used for the Severe Thunderstorm Electrification and Precipitation Study (STEPS), a research program carried out in 2000 on the High Plains in central USA. STEPS helped to provide a better understanding of the interactions between air motion, precipitation production, and electrification in severe thunderstorms. Photographed in Colorado, USA.
