L'Isotta Fraschini donated to Pius XI by the Automobile Club of Milan on May 1, 1929. The initiative was parallel to that of Fiat. It was believed that the Pope, now free from the forced Vatican cloister following the signing of the Conciliation, would have needed a more prestigious Bianchi 20 car that had been given to him a few years earlier.
