In 1839, he was elected Governor of Ten-nessee, and in 1844 was elected President. In his accepta-tion of the nomination for President, he declared he wouldserve only one term, and his administration was one of gloryand prosperity, being marked by the war with Mexico,which resulted in the annexation of Texas.
