Lalanne and Sculpture Park (Avenue). François-Xavier Lalanne’s “Moutons” sculpture will be installed on a Park Avenue median. Mouton Transhumant (Brebis) and Beliers, a life size flock of a dozen sheep and lambs by the artist Francois-Xavier LaLanne. The elegant, whimsical and sometimes haunting bronze sculptures by the French artists Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne are the latest addition to the ongoing outdoor sculpture program on Park Avenue. Beginning Sept. 13, eight Lalanne sculptures will grace the avenue’s median until Nov. 20, in an exhibition sponsored by the New York City Parks Public Art Program in conjunction with the Paul Kasmin Gallery and in cooperation with the Park Avenue Sculpture Committee. This is the first major outdoor show of the Lalannes’ work (François-Xavier died last year), which is collected by design-world luminaries like Jacques Grange and Reed Krakoff. The sculptures, which will be installed between 52nd and 57th Streets, include some of the artists’ best-known pieces, including a flock of François-Xavier’s famous sheep and Claude’s “Choupatte,” a anthropomorphized bronze cabbage standing on bird legs, as well as her “Pomme de New York,” a really big apple.
