He has had much to do with the improvement ofthe election laws, and has from time to time appeared before theLegislature to this end. Registrar Zemansky belongs to many clubs and other organiza-tions, social, political and benevolent, including the ^niversity of California Club, the Xew Yorkers, the German Benevo-lent Association, the Lincoln School Association, the Ashbury HeightsImprovement Association, and The length of the Stockton Street Tunnel from portal to portalis 911 feet. The length of the north approach is 138 feet and of thesouth approach, 275 feet. The total length, including approaches,is 1324 feet. The width of the tunnel is fifty feet, the height ofthe arch above the curb eighteen feet, the thickness of the base iseight feet and of the roof, two feet eight inches. It was necessaryto excavate 143,500 cubic yards of earth and rock. The tunnel con-tains cubic vards of concrete and 637,000 pounds of steel. Thecost was $430,000. Department of Elections I s^^ ^^i
