What is the function of the glomerulus or Malpighiantuft or corpuscles ?According to most physiologists, the Malpighian tuft secretes the THE KIDNEYS. 85 liquids and salts of the urine, while the epithelial lining of theuriniferous tubules secretes urea and uric acid, r any substancewhich taken into the body is eliminated by the kidneys. What peculiar arrangement have we in the blood supplyof the Malpighian tuft ? The blood passes, by means of the afferent vessel or artery, to theMalpighian tuft and enters it, giving off immediately a capillarynetwork. At the other side of this capillary network a vesselgoes off, which, as a general rule, does not leave the Malpighianbody on the opposite side from the entrance of the artery, but findsits exit from the same opening as that by which the artery uriniferous tubule, however, is given off from the Malpighianbody on the opposite side from that at which the artery entersand the efferent vessel leaves.
