A German hunting/sporting crossbow,presumably Saxony,circa 1730. Massive steel prod with old twisted hemp bow-string and green woolen tassels. Cord binding. Tiller made of cherry wood with engraved and blackened bone decoration. Bolt-clip and butt-plate made of horn. Set trigger. The top of the tiller bears the inlaid number "3",in front of an silver escutcheon engraved with the owner's name(probably an addition from the early 19th century).
