Hertall and stately figure, her voice, and her winning person-ality endeared her to all. She has anunlimited supply of witty, bright say-ings, can tell a funny story or a pa-thetic one, and at times reachesheights of eloqence that stir the she visit Hartford again. The Womans Christian TemperanceUnion held three delightful meetingswith Miss Jessie Ackerman as afternoon, February 24, inthe Centre church chapel, a good sizedaudience of ladies with a few interest-ed men listened to Tales of theOrient. Miss Ackerman having spentnine years abroad, and visited nearlyfifty countries, is eminently fitted totell of these strange lands and strangepeoples. Her stories were entertain-ing, pathetic and amusing. On Sun-day afternoon in Unity hall, we lis-t< ned to a lecture on the Boers andOther People. The descriptions ofthe life among the Boers, their relig-ion, peculiarities, customs, etc., wereof timely interest. Miss Ackerman de-scribed personal interviews withPresident Kruger and wife, told of thepicsidents personal appearance andsaid that she felt his personality to bea powerful one. She
