COMMANDER CHARLES E. STATES NAVY. 275 Commander CHARLES E. COLAHAN. United States Navy. Was a native of Pennsylvania, and was ap-pointed to the Naval Academy from that State in1865. He served his countr\ faithfnlly and wellfrom the date of his appointment to the time of hisdeath in 1904. Dnring his long career in the Navyit may trnly be said of him that he never evaded dnt}^no matter how disagreeable. He was actively em-ployed dnring his entire period of service in mostconspicnons dnties, being Execntive Officer of theDetroit dnring the war with Spain, and as Com-mandant of Cadets at the Naval Academy from 1900to 1904.
