"Welcome to Alaska" sign at Poker Creek, Alaska, site of the US and Canada border and joint customs office.

"Welcome to Alaska" sign at Poker Creek, Alaska, site of the US and Canada border and customs office on the "Top of the World Highway" (also known as Yukon 9). This highway between Dawson City, Yukon Territory, and Tetlin Junction, Alaska, is named for the way it follows the crest of the hills, providing incredible views of the valleys below. A traveler here definitely has the feeling of being "on top of the world." This basically unpaved highway (because of the stress of the severity of winter cold) is only open in the summer.
