This water flows to the next pond with more evaporation and so on until salt concentration is high enough for precipitation. This crystalline salt is harvested. In this ponds a lot of organisms are growing that are providing food for a lot of bird species also including endangered ones. The future of this nature paradise is uncertain, because of projects to convert the area for touristic purposes. In der Salline bei der Stadt Ulcinj im Süden Montenegros verdunstet Meerwasser in künstlichen Becken. Dieses Wasser wird indas nächste Becken zur weiteren Verdunstung geleitet und dieser Vorgang so oft wiederholt, bis Kochsalz ausfällt, das gerentet werden kann. In den Becken wachsen viele Organismen, die gern von Vögeln gefressen werden. Daher leben in solchen Salinen oft auch seltene Vogelarten. Die Zukunft dieses Gebiets ist allerdings ungewiss, da Pläne existieren, das Gebiet für den Tourismus umzugestalten.
