ISOBAR PROGNOSTICS. Now we come to the consideration of some very interesting rainprognostics associated with straight isobars. While those in a de- 388 VERMONT AGRICULTURAL REPORT. pression are preceded by an almost ominous calm, and a dirty, murkysky, these are associated with a hard sky and blusteiy wind, of whichit would be ordinarily remarked u that the wind keeps down the rain,or u that when the wind falls it will rain. While also the prognos-tics which precede cyclone rain hold good for the reason that they areseen in front of the rainy portion, those associated with straight iso-bars hold good because, though there is little rain actually with them,the area which they cover to-da} will probabby be covered by a depres-sion to-morrow—the conditions being favorable for the passage ofdepressions. On looking at Plate xx, it will be seen that while thepressure is high to the south, it is low to the north, without any def-inite cyclonic system, and that the isoba
