My home village of Radley in Oxfordshire has a sacred ritual, which must be performed without fail. The ritual of the garbage bins centres on Thursday; the bins must be put out at the last minute, and collected as soon as the bin men empty them. Such is English village etiquette. Needless to say, the garbage is strictly segregated; black for non-recyclable, green for recyclable, brown for garden waste. Not forgetting, of course, bright red for dismembered corpses.
