With a gentleslope from the -Board Walk, it ex-tends seaward for a distance of twohundred yards. The favorite bathinghour is between eleven and twelveoclock, when the great crowds takeadvantage of the incoming tide. It has beenestimated on several occasions in the safeguard to the more reckless bathersthere is formed a volunteer surf guard ofexpert swimmers, who patrol the beachbeyond the breakers and are ready atall times to come to the assistance ofthe unfortunate bather, who has eithergone beyond his depth or has in a fit offool-hardiness swam out too far and be-come exhausted.
