It is more often planted upon the lawns of the village and city, as well as the farm lawn, than other fruit trees. It furnishes a delightful shade and is a clean tree. The cherry tree does better without cultivation than almost any other fruit trees, but if possible the first few years it should be cultivated, or mulched on the surface of the soil with manure. I have heard of a cherry tree that was 6% fee* i11 circumference, with a spread of branches measuring 60 feet. Since it bore its first crop it has borne annually without one omission 600 to 1000 pounds of superior cherries, selling for 7 cents per pound. We seldom hear of a cherry orchard.
