Weshall naturally commence with the oldest and best-known of these— THE WEENEN IRRIGATION SETTLEM ENT.—This Government Irrigation Settle-ment is on the Bushmans River, in the Thorn Country, and was formerly part of thecommonage laid aside for the village of Weenen. It is distant from Estcourt 30 miles byrailway and 25 miles by road, and is by rail 176 miles from Durban and 105 miles fromPietermaritzburg. The height above sea level is 2,841 feet.
