He was born in Bohemia in1839, and was educated in the Polytechnic Institute inPrague, and com|jleted his studies in a classical school inVienna. Coming to this country in 1868 he became editorof the Anierican Brewer, which was started that year byAdol])h Meckert. In the year following Mr. Schwarzbecame sole ])roprietor of the paper. For three years hestudied practical brewing under the celebrated ProfessorBalling, of Prague, and in 1880, as already stated, started.
