Early December 2013 brought the worst tidal surges for 60 years when spring tides coupled with gale force winds caused a tidal surge along the east coast of England the worst since the devastating floods of 1953. At Hemsby Norfolk, clifftop bungalows with views of the North Sea collapsed as the sea eroded away the cliffs. Owners watched in horror as their homes were being destroyed by the forces of nature.
