A Caucasian Hetmann kinjal, dated 1844. Double-edged broad blade, the fullers on either side set at different heights and etched with a geometrical pattern. The base struck on both sides with an onion-shaped smith's mark. Constricted horn grip with nielloed silver mounts. The obverse of the shagreen leather-covered wood scabbard decorated with cord and bearing the date "1260" (= 1844). En suite nielloed upper scabbard fitting made from silver, the chape emboosed with a geometrical pattern. The reverse with by-knife (of later date).
