View WSW of the late C15th well house abutting the S wall of the S aisle of St Sampson's Church, Golant, Cornwall, England, UK, seen through the side arch of the S porch. St Sampson (Samson) is said to have established a cell & church beside the spring in the C6th. In 1281 a chapel was recorded at St Sampson annexed to the Priory at Tywardreath; it was rebuilt in c. 1450-1500 & consecrated as a separate church in 1509. There are several legends linking the area, St Sampson & his early monastery with King Mark, Queen Iseult, Tristan & the Arthurian cycle of stories.
