Cretaceous dinosaurs. Artwork of two types of dinosaur that lived during the Cretaceous period (around 70-65 million years ago). Three Triceratops horridus are seen. These large herbivores reached up to 9 metres in length and weighed more than 6000 kilograms. The 3 horns on the head were probably used in pushing contests and for defence against predator attack. The frill (red) protected the neck. Also seen is Ornithomimus (red and yellow, lower right), a bird-like dinosaur similar to the ostrich. This omnivore is thought to have been able to run at speeds of over 50 kilometres per hour.
