The sporidia from the teleutospores infect the Apple tree and the aecidiospores produced on the Apple foliage during summer reinfect the cedars. From Technical Bulletin 9, Virginia Agr. Exp. Sta. have been evolved from the Ascomycetes, and hence are farthest removed from the Algae, which they resemble very little. In such Basidiomycetes as the Toadstools and Puffballs, the most highly developed sporophores occur, while in the parasitic Basidiomycetes, as the Smuts and Rusts, the mycelium is scat- tered through the host and is only visible through the production of spore masses.
