Uluru also known as Ayers Rock is located in the Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park in the Northern Territory of Australia. A famous natural landmark and a UNESCO world heritage site. Together with Kata Tjuta some 25 km to the north-west they form prominent rock dome rock formations. Comprised of a reddish colored, coarse grained sandstone and conglomerate. Remnants of a huge alluvial fan produced by erosion of a granitic terrain.
